In this month’s update, we focus on measles awareness in light of recent community cases. We are also pleased to welcome Dr Amanda Saunders to our team and provide information from Dr Brad on the aesthetic treatments offered at the practice. Important: Measles Outbreak Awareness
There has been a rise in measles cases in parts of South Africa. Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through coughing and sneezing, and airborne particles can remain infectious for up to 12 hours.Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent measles. In South Africa, the measles vaccine forms part of the routine immunisation schedule and is given at 6 months and 12 months of age. |
If your child has missed a vaccine dose, it is never too late to catch up. If you or your child develops symptoms suggestive of measles, please call the practice before coming in, so that we can advise you appropriately and help prevent further spread. Common symptoms include:High feverRashRunny noseCoughRed eyes (conjunctivitis)Small white spots inside the mouth (Koplik spots) Measles can lead to serious complications, particularly in:Children under 2 yearsMalnourished childrenImmunocompromised individuals

Anti-wrinkle treatment (Botox) Best suited for expression lines such as frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. It softens dynamic lines caused by facial movement and may help prevent them from becoming more established over time.
Skin BoostersImprove overall skin quality by delivering micro-droplets of hyaluronic acid into the skin. This deeply hydrates, improves texture and elasticity, and enhances radiance — particularly helpful for thinner or drier skin.
